It may be too late to do much about marketing for the 2024 holiday season, but with plans for 2025 already forming in the minds of retailers and brands, a new eBay study is worth noting.
This week he said that self-gift is on the rise – over a third (34%) of people across the UK are choosing to gift differently by purchasing the item they really want.
New research it commissioned among more than 2,000 consumers last month reveals the rise of self-gifting as a trend: 38% of people feel too uncomfortable to ask for what they really want, particularly luxury pieces (and as a side note, the 53% of Gen Z expect to find a luxury gift under the tree this Christmas).
Returning to the topic of self-gifting, research shows that the most popular luxury items shoppers purchase for themselves are watches (21%), jewelry (16%) and handbags (14%) this holiday season. And eBay has seen increases in searches for these products in the run-up to the holiday season.
It also said searches for key items like Prada loafers are up more than 60%, while searches for Miu Miu sunglasses are up more than 30%, searches for Bottega Veneta Jodie bags are up nearly 20% and searches for Tank de Cartier watches have increased by more than 10%.
