eBay Introduces 'Resell on eBay' Feature and Starts with Save The Duck


With resale now a major feature of the online fashion shopping experience, eBay is launching what it says is a “pioneering feature to transform the way consumers can resell their favorite fashion items.”

It is being implemented through Certilogo, a connected products and authentication platform for fashion and luxury that eBay acquired in July 2023 to boost the authentication of used vehicles.

Its new 'resell on eBay' functionality is a click-to-resell feature that is integrated into Certilogo's connected product smart tags and allows users to list branded items with a couple of clicks of a button.

It said the new feature has been developed “as part of its “commitment to creating easier ways for brands and shoppers to participate in fashion's circular economy.”

The feature will be integrated into Certilogo's Secure by Design digital ID, which can be accessed by scanning the smart tag of a connected product.

Italian outerwear and lifestyle brand Save The Duck is the first brand to pilot the feature, with its connected garments featuring the new resale button launching from this month.

eBay plans to expand the service to other brands using Certilogo Digital ID in the near future, with the goal of making it a default feature of its Secure by Design technology.

“eBay is focused on providing solutions to brands while creating an elevated marketplace for buyers and sellers,” said Charis Marquez, global managing director of fashion at the e-commerce giant. “Reducing friction and removing barriers that prevent brands and consumers from engaging in re-commerce is crucial to fostering a second-hand fashion market. “Our new resale feature helps brands keep their products out of landfills while giving consumers an incredibly easy way to give their items a second life.”

It works when a The user scans the QR code on their product's smart tag and a “resell on eBay” button is displayed.
