eBay announces first-ever Secondhand Fashion Week and partners with BFC and CFDA

eBay is launching its first ever Secondhand Fashion Week on September 12, taking place in London and New York. The initiative, which is partnering with the British Fashion Council and the Council of Fashion Designers of America, aims to offer “a new generation of shoppers access to authentic designer fashion.”

It's a live, shoppable runway show for UK and US consumers, called 'Endless Runway', on eBay Live, featuring “used looks from designers including Khaite, Off-White, Christopher Kane and Simone Rocha”.

The shows will precede the official SS25 New York and London Fashion Week schedules, “followed by daily eBay drops featuring the best secondhand fashion from the best designers.”

The event makes the online retail site's wide selection of pre-owned designer clothing and accessories “immediately shoppable, while tapping into global demand for circular fashion.”

It's all been curated and styled by fashion creative Wisdom Kaye and presented by fashion writer Liana Satenstein in New York with eBay's Pre-Loved Style Director Amy Bannerman, supported by live presenter Leomie Anderson in London.

“eBay has been a driving force in promoting more sustainable fashion,” said Kirsty Keoghan, Managing Director of Fashion. “With the launch of Secondhand Fashion Week, we are appearing on fashion’s biggest stage and proving that authentic designer fashion doesn’t have to be out of reach.”

The company also cited the fact that billions of pounds and dollars worth of second-hand luxury goods were sold worldwide in 2023, “driven by younger consumers seeking accessible entry points into the traditionally exclusive luxury market.”

On eBay, used and refurbished items account for 40% of its gross merchandise volume, and in June, eBay’s global users searched for “vintage” more than 1,000 times per minute, on average.

“As we celebrate 40 years of London Fashion Week, we are delighted to partner with eBay to showcase the incredible British brands and designers who have played such an important role in London Fashion Week over the past four decades,” said Caroline Rush, BFC Chief Executive. “The Endless Runway will breathe new life into archive pieces, whilst making fashion week accessible to a wider audience and empowering consumers to prioritise sustainable and circular fashion choices.”

And CFDA director Steven Kolb added: “New York Fashion Week showcases the best of American fashion and beyond, and it’s amazing how eBay brings together such a stellar selection of vintage, archival and covetable items from these brands. eBay Fashion Week Pre-Loved and its Endless Runway live show connect the past, present and future, and offer a powerful reminder that the future of fashion is circular.”
