The exhibition “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” arrived in Seoul, opening in the design square of Dongdaemun (DDP) until July 13.
Commissioned by Florence Müller and brought to life by the architect Shigematsu de Oma, the Seoul exhibition offers an immersive narrative through more than 75 years of Dior creative legacy.
Starting with a look at 30 Avenue Montaigne, known as Dior's “Kingdom of Dreams”, visitors are invited to witness the origins of haute couture. The new iconic appearance, the revolutionary 1947 silhouette of Christian Dior, is presented in a scenic space. From there, the exhibition tracks the evolution of the house through its successive artistic directors, each woven in a narrative similar to a ribbon inspired by jotakbo, the Korean art of the mosaic.
Dior's passion for flowers and gardens is incorporated into two poetic environments, including a tribute to the fragrance of Miss Dior, with file materials. The story of J'adore also occupies the center of the stage in another gallery, where it is reinvented through Golden Gowns, pieces of art by Jean-Michel Othoniel and India Mahdavi, and designs of bottles of Victoire de Castellane.
Honoring the artisans behind Dior's legacy, the white canvas room pays tribute to the Petites network, the artisans experts in the Dior heels, while the coloama installation reveals a configuration that rewards the tones and combinations of the chromatic circle, which refers to the importance of dior accessories and fragrances.
Another prominent point of the Seoul edition is the dedicated space for the Lady Dior bag. For the first time, the exhibition shows 26 reinterpretations of the iconic bag of contemporary Korean artists, including nine as part of the Dior Lady art project, and seventeen of the Lady Dior as seen by the concept.
The experience culminates in a walk that highlights Dior's fascination with parties and balls of a series of sets in pastel and white tones, which is shown along with a Soo Sunny Park installation.
The opening is still stopped in Paris, London, Shanghai, Chengdu, New York, Doha, Tokyo and Riad.
