Crocs settles trademark dispute with Australia's Mosaic

U.S. footwear brand Crocs Inc. said it has settled a trademark infringement lawsuit with Australia's Mosaic Brands, which accused the retailer of selling a product it said was “deceptively similar” to Crocs' Classic Clog.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Crocs initially filed a lawsuit against Mosaic Brands in 2021. In the Federal Court of Australia, Crocs argued that its Classic Clog silhouette was protected by trademark registrations in more than 30 countries, including Australia.

Mosaic has agreed to stop manufacturing and selling certain molded footwear products and similar styles by the end of the year. Both parties agreed to the terms of the agreement without admitting anything.

“We are pleased that we have been able to resolve this dispute amicably, avoiding the need for further expenditure of time and resources by either party in this litigation,” the two companies said in a statement.

Crocs is known for protecting its trademark clogs.

In 2022, the firm settled its trademark infringement lawsuit against American retail giant Walmart after the company filed lawsuits against 21 companies in July 2021, alleging infringement of its trademarks.

In June 2021, Crocs filed a complaint with the United States International Trade Commission (USITC) requesting an investigation into the illegal importation and sale of allegedly infringing footwear.
