Chanel to travel to China in December for its Métiers d'art 2024/25 show

After Dakar, Paris and Manchester, Chanel has chosen China to present its next Métiers d'art collection. In a brief press release, the Parisian fashion house simply states that it will “unveil its Métiers d'art 2024/25 collection at a show taking place on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 in Hangzhou, mainland China.” Deprived of its creative director Virginie Viard since June, the brand has not said who will design the collection.

The latest Chanel Métiers d'art show

The label recalls that “created in 2002, the Métiers d'art collection, unique to Chanel, pays tribute each year to the exceptional know-how of the artisans of the Maisons d'Art and, since 2021, has been housed at 19M, the Chanel Métiers d'art creation and transmission centre in Paris”.

Virginie Viard presented her latest Métiers d'art collection in Manchester, UK, last December to celebrate the house's ties to the country, but also the inspiration, music, culture and energy that radiates from the city.

The choice of China seems to be motivated more by commercial reasons. Luxury brands are stepping up their events in this market, which remains crucial despite the slowdown experienced by the luxury goods sector since the Covid crisis. Located 200 kilometres south of Shanghai, Hangzhou is one of the top ten cities for luxury goods, after Beijing and Shanghai.

Before unveiling its Métiers d'art collection in Hangzhou, Chanel has already scheduled another show, this time in Hong Kong. A month earlier, on November 5, it plans to present its Cruise 2024/25 collection.
