Inspired by a rich history of product crafts, the association brought together talented fashion students with members of Burberry creative and commercial teams to explore the topic of circularity. The competition provided LCF students with the opportunity to show their creativity through a series of review sessions, while learning from Burberry products experts.
Burberry has associated with the sustainable fashion center in LCF, UAL, for the 'Reimagination Materials' competition, challenging students to design with surplus Burberry materials and an approach to circularity. Ba Clara Gröning student won the contest, winning an internship and a cash prize. The finalist designs were exhibited on the LCF East Bank campus and the Burberry Recent Street store.
For a couple of months, 20 preselected students were challenged with a real industry report to present new and exciting ways of reinventing surplus materials, including the iconic Trinchera gabardina of Burberry, the Burberry Control Coating fabric, leather and a selection of ornaments, in original products.
After a series of portfolio and prototype review sessions and an educational workshop on brand heritage and house codes, student designs were tried by a panel composed of representatives of the products of products, digital and commercialization of Burberry, and members of the CSF knowledge exchange team.
The winning design belongs to Clara Gröning, BA (Hons) fashion development student in LCF. The original Gröning piece, together with the work of nine other selected finalists, was exhibited in the exhibition 'Reimaging Materials' held in the Wolfson gallery in the new home of London College of Fashion in East Bank. The final designs were also exhibited in Burberry's London Recent Street Store. In addition to receiving a cash prize, Clara will join Burberry for an this autumn.
With the support of the Burberry Early Careers team, the 'Reimaging Materials' program is based on a variety of initiatives that Burberry offers to help talented young and recent graduates to obtain first -hand experience together with industry professionals, including its recent collaboration with the National Saturday Club and the association with the British school.
