Burberry celebrates the Year of the Snake with a capsule collection designed in collaboration with Chinese bamboo artist Qian Lihuai. The collection features red-themed clothing, including outerwear, dresses and accessories, as well as miniature items. Lihuai crafted nine bamboo sculptures for the campaign, symbolizing love, care and family.
To celebrate the collection, Burberry has partnered with Qian Lihua, one of China's most influential bamboo weaving artists. Fabric is intrinsic to Burberry's heritage, from the innovative open weave of the iconic trench coat to the distinctive Burberry Check scarf. Coming from a family with a rich history in bamboo weaving, Lihua is known for bringing a contemporary nuance to this ancient and prized craft.
Lihua has created a collection of nine bamboo art sculptures for Burberry, the 'Us' series, which appears in a campaign starring actor and brand ambassador Zhang Jingyi and photographed by photographer Walter Pfeiffer, as well as the windows of major brands. flagships in China. Handwoven and molded into abstract, serpentine shapes, they are presented as individual pieces with their own story but interconnected to create a whole. They are united like the unbreakable bonds of a family, inseparable but distinct in their individuality, and embody themes of love, care and support that are central to the Year of the Snake. The collaboration has also conceptually inspired storefronts across the region, the company said in a press release.
“I have always been drawn to Burberry's signature patterns and was struck by how the textures and colors bear a striking resemblance to the intricate designs found in bamboo weaving. It feels like a natural connection,” Lihuai said.
“The Year of the Snake is a new beginning, a time to open a new chapter. For me, the best part of this time of year is gathering with loved ones, sharing good food and conversation, and soaking in the festive warmth. Photographing the Burberry campaign gave me a similar sense of connection, especially collaborating with photographer Walter Pfeiffer and artist Qian Lihuai's intricate bamboo art installations. Creating unique holiday memories with Burberry was an absolute pleasure,” he said Zhang Jingyi, b.Rand ambassador.
