British Fashion Council promotes inclusivity at LFW June 2024

We are delighted to announce that June London Fashion Week presented by 1664 Blanc (LFW) will take place from Friday 7th to Sunday 9th June. LFW June aims to spark a cultural moment in London, providing a platform for diverse British designers and brands with a focus on the depth and breadth of the menswear business in the UK. In line with the year-long celebrations of LFW's 40th anniversary (LFW40), the new concept will highlight London's position as the world's leading cultural capital and amplify its creative community. The ambition of June LFW going forward is to provide a platform for designer businesses and the different cultures and communities that have made a rich and significant contribution to the British fashion industry.

On Friday, June 7, as part of the new format, the BFC will take over the Institute of Contemporary Art and present a curated program that will include an exhibition, panel discussions and cultural events informed by the first three cultures that the BFC has chosen to highlight . this season. In collaboration with three guest curators, the BFC will explore Black culture centered on self-love; South Asian culture focused on patterns, textiles and crafts; and queer culture, with special attention to young creative voices from the trans community. Rooted in London, the narrative will focus on British brands and designers, as well as personal stories from a variety of communities within these cultures. To celebrate LFW40, there will be a retrospective installation celebrating the success of LFW and the important role it plays globally at the intersection of culture.

This will be complemented by the “40 for 40” programme, with an incredible line-up of 40 activations hosted by leading British brands and designers across the city, including; parades, presentations and events. The BFC will take over the Groucho Club on Sunday 9 June to offer designers and brands a dynamic activation space. The immersive program is designed for guests to explore and experience the city and brands in new ways.

London Fashion Week June 2024, June 7-9, celebrates its 40th anniversary by focusing on diverse British men's fashion and culture. The BFC will host various events across London, including exhibitions and debates, to showcase and amplify the contributions of British designers and diverse communities to the fashion industry, with an emphasis on inclusivity and innovation.

Caroline Rush, Chief Executive, British Fashion Council commented: “As we continue our LFW40 celebrations, we are delighted to share a new concept for June LFW that will amplify our designers and promote the diverse menswear businesses, from streetwear to Savile Row, as well as retail across the city. We will celebrate and pay tribute to some of the cultures that contribute so much to the UK fashion industry; the goal is to take advantage of this with different cultures each year. The new format is a direct result of the conversations we continually have with the BFC community (UK and international designers, media, retailers). We want to ensure we recognize the business needs of our designers and provide them with a global showcase platform that is relevant and beneficial. This iteration of LFW is a truly exciting opportunity to future-proof and innovate the UK's fashion exhibition capabilities and highlight the city's point of difference during men's fashion month. We look forward to launching this new format with the support of 1664 Blanc.”
