British brand M&S partners with Circulose to use recycled textile materials

M&S has become the first UK brand to join Circulose as a Scaling Partner, marking a step forward in the retailer's commitment to circularity in its fashion supply chain.

The partnership will allow M&S to integrate CIRCULOSE, a next-generation material made from 100% textile waste, into select products, helping to reduce reliance on virgin fibers and accelerate the shift towards circular design at scale.

M&S has become the first UK brand to join Circulose as a Scaling Partner, integrating 100% textile waste material into selected products to reduce virgin fiber use and scale circular design. The move supports M&S's 2040 net zero emissions target and builds on its Another Life initiatives in repair, resale and recycling, and Circulo sees the partnership as key to accelerating the uptake of next-generation fibre.

CIRCULOSE is produced using a patented process that transforms discarded textiles, including production waste and textiles that can no longer be resold or used, into a high-performance material, helping to reduce waste, emissions and relieve pressure on forests and land.

Katharine Beacham, Director of Sustainability and Fashion Materials at M&Ssaid: “Partnering with Circulose allows us to put the concept of circular design into practice and will be an example of how the industry can move from small-scale pilots to incorporating next-generation materials on a larger scale.

“By integrating circular materials into our sourcing strategy, we will reduce reliance on virgin fibres, reduce waste and help build a future-ready fashion industry.”

Jonatan Janmark, CEO of Circulosesaid: “We are delighted to welcome M&S as our first scaling partner in the UK. Their leadership in sustainability and commitment to circular fashion plays an important role in accelerating the adoption of next generation fibres. This partnership is one of several we are building with leading global brands, with more to join soon.”

The collaboration builds on M&S' commitment to becoming a net zero business across its value chain by 2040 and complements the retailer's wider work under its Another Life initiative, which brings together Rewear, Repair, Recycle and Resale initiatives, including resale partnerships with eBay and Reskinned, and a repair service with SOJO.

ladybug He added: “This is an exciting next step in our journey to becoming a net-zero emissions business by 2040 and a great example of the ambition behind our Plan A – Another Life initiative.”
