BFC celebrates four decades of LFW with expanded nationwide events

The British Fashion Council (BFC) has launched London Fashion Week, presented by 1664 Blanc, which runs until 17 September. The BFC will continue to work with its principal partner, 1664 Blanc, who have been a strong contributor to the BFC’s commitment to supporting emerging design talent and increasing the reach of LFW by opening it up even further to consumers throughout the year.

September will culminate the celebrations for the 40th anniversaryHe London Fashion Week (LFW40) anniversary, with the BFC hosting a number of activations and events, celebrating the creative community and telling the story and impact of LFW globally. LFW40 celebrations and highlights from 180 The Strand will also include the LFW40 Bookshop and the LFW40 10 Downing Street event.

London Fashion Week, presented by 1664 Blanc, runs until 17 September and will celebrate its 40th anniversary with special events including the LFW40 bookstore at 180 The Strand and a reception at 10 Downing Street. The city-wide celebration now extends to Manchester and Newcastle. This season features 72 designers, 48 ​​catwalk shows and 17 digital activations.

The BFC will host an LFW40 bookshop at 180 The Strand, showcasing over 150 rare and unique books focusing on fashion, culture and creativity, showcasing the impact of the creative industries over recent decades and highlighting the resilience of the fashion industry and its ability to adapt to ever-changing political landscapes. The bookshop has been curated by Reference Point and Record28, the BFC said in a press release.

As part of the LFW40 celebrations, the Prime Minister will host the BFC and its guests at a reception at 10 Downing Street to celebrate and promote the British fashion industry alongside senior industry leaders, government ministers and members of the BFC network. This will provide an invaluable opportunity to present the sector’s priorities to the new government and maximise the potential boost that a change of government offers to the industry.

To celebrate LFW40, there will be an expanded version of City Wide Celebration (CWC), with the programme of events extending to Manchester and Newcastle for the first time. CWC is a programme of over 1,000 unique experiences and activities open to the public from over 350 brands throughout September taking place across London, Manchester and Newcastle. Organised by the BFC, CWC celebrates the best of British street culture and aims to support and promote retail across the UK, whilst driving the fashion debate through industry-wide engagement and partnerships.

The calendar features 72 designers, 48 ​​fashion shows, 17 presentations, 63 events and 17 digital activations that are available on the official digital hub. This season, Hu Bing will celebrate its 10th anniversary.He Consistence will celebrate its anniversary as BFC LFW ambassador in China and launch Hu Bing Selects, a new initiative that provides a platform for Chinese design talent on a global stage and supports BFC in building closer ties with the Chinese fashion industry. This season, Chinese designer Consistence will present his collection at the BFC NEWGEN space as part of Hu Bing Selects.
