The Bestseller of Danish fashion and the German Technology Company Matterr have been linked to the recycling of polyester at scale after a “substantial” subsidy of the EU. Bestseller is investing in the operation through its innovation and investment platform Invest FWD.
Matterr is now ready to advance the plans of his next factory, while Bestseller said that the strategic association with the German firm is part of its “continuous investments in the development of future materials.”
When observing the details, Matterr has developed “an innovative technology for the chemical recycling of the worn textile polyester and the packaging waste difficult to recycle. The process offers raw materials ready to fall, identical to the virgin quality, and is now configured in scale.”
It will begin to build its small -scale industrial plant in 2026 and once completed, the installation is designed to process 10,000 tons of waste rich in polyester in virgin quality raw materials every year.
CEO Melanie Hackler said that Matterr and Bestseller “share not only the mentality and values, but also the belief that the real change comes from pragmatic collaboration. Together, we are building an association that points towards the commercial models of the future.”
Bestseller has made multiple investments in recycling technology through Invest FWD and said that “it focuses on several promising companies within the same commercial area. Common to all is the difficult, but important process, towards the scale.”
His sustainability boss, Dart Rye Olsen, said: “Matterr is a young company with an interesting solution that aims to be implemented on a large scale to benefit the entire fashion industry. We believe in the scalability of its technology and in the company's commercial potential. This can guarantee the right -term correct impact.”
The companies did not say how much the total investment is added, but they said that the support of the EU, through the EFRE/JTF program in North Rhine-Westphalia, is € 30 million, the largest subsidies granted under this framework so far.
