AK-OK collections have always been rooted in the vibrant culture of India using fabrics and motifs that celebrate a nature-loving way of life. Khanna takes that signature approach a step further by imagining Bonda's colours, motifs and embroidery on ensembles for a night out on the town. The collection is inspired by her muse, a biker, and is expressed in a collection of jackets, baggy pants, drapes and kaftans. She reimagines staples like a pair of jeans, turning a wardrobe essential into a statement piece, the company said in a press release.
Anamika Khanna will present her Spring Summer '24 collection at LFW on March 15, inspired by the bikers of the Bonda tribe of Orissa. The line combines tribal motifs with street style and offers denim-based garments such as jackets and loose pants. With a palette that includes whites, ivories and vibrant hues, the collection will showcase intricate embroidery reminiscent of biker studs.
The collection is based on jeans with a palette that includes quintessential whites, ivories and blacks that expand to a range of bolder prints and colors such as red and pink. In a collection rich in details, it combines thick thread embroidery inspired by biker studs to reinvent the idea of streetwear.
“India has thousands of native tribes, each with a unique identity represented in their dress and way of life. The Bonda community of Orissa, their signature is rich clothing with neon beads, shells and brass neck rings combined with home-woven fabrics. “This is a tribe known for its bravery, which kept its culture thriving in a decade obsessed with erasing diversity,” Khanna said.
