The 'Adobe x Christian Cowan Dress powered by Primrose Technology' debuted as the main look of the designer's new Fall/Winter collection on the runway. The unique design uses laser-cut polymer dispersed liquid crystal “petals” that electronically change the appearance of Cowan's iconic stars, bringing the dress to life in an instant. Below each column of petals is a base with a flexible printed circuit board, which allows the petals to alternate and change between shades of gray and ivory. The dynamic dress opens up unlimited possibilities in fashion design, showing how static clothing can be transformed into dynamic expressions of art and technology, the company said in a press release.
“As someone who is always trying to push boundaries and embrace new ways of working, after seeing what the project's Primrose technology was capable of, I was eager to further explore this intersection of fashion and technology and collaborate with Adobe for my F/ W '24 NYFW,” Cowan said. “I was immediately inspired by its potential and was especially drawn to the notion of sustainability behind it with the ability to create multiple iterations of a singular garment. I am honored to be the first designer to show how this impactful technology can be used to bring “The fabrics and designs come to life like never before.”
