A new exhibition in Palazzo Strozzi in Florence is highlighting 20 years from the Max Mara For Women Art Award, until August 31.
Presented in association with Collezione Maramotti and Whitechapel Gallery, the exhibition called “Time for Women! Empowering the visions in 20 years of the Max Mara Art for Women”, celebrates the twentieth anniversary of the prestigious prize and their lasting role in defending the emerging artists of identifying women.
The exhibition brings together the work of the nine winners of the Max Mara Art Award, each of which developed their practice during a six -month residence in Italy. The prominent artists include Margaret Salmon, Hannah Rickards, Andrea Büttner, Laure Prouvost, Corin Sworn, Emma Hart, Helen Cammock, Emma Talbot and Dominique White.
The exhibition covers a wide range of media, which include video, installation, sculpture and paper work. The project of each artist reflects a deeply personal and immersive Italian experience, made up of topics such as mythology, motherhood, monasticism, artisanal traditions, memory, identity and rediscovery of the stories overlooked.
Founded in 2005, the Max Mara Art for Women Award was the First Prize of Visual Arts dedicated to women emerging artists working in the United Kingdom. Since 2007, Collezione Maramotti has hosted the residences of artists.
