What are polo dresses?
A Polo dress is perfect for a casual look that's elevated than your basic loungewear while still being comfortable. Its name comes from polo-neck sports shirts and usually has a similar cut, roll-neck, buttons and cotton knit fabric that Men used to wear it during polo games which originated in Britain.

Being English but having lived in the United States for 20 years, I got very confused knowing what to call the neckline on polo dresses. For me, a polo neck can be a turtleneck or polo style.
Turtleneck is the American name for polo collar, but in England, where there are both polo and turtlenecks, it has a double meaning. For the English, this neckline is tubular, although not as high or folded as a polo collar usually is.

In the United States it is better to distinguish between the two. So to avoid confusion, in this article I will call them polo dresses since I am not referring to turtlenecks.
