Before the New York Yankees faced the Tampa Bay Rays, a moment of silence was held in memory of Rachel Minaya, wife of senior adviser for baseball operations Omar Minaya, who was reportedly found dead in her New Jersey home on Saturday.

The Yankee Stadium video board had a photo of Rachel Minaya, which the Yankees posted on social media.

Following the Yankees' 9-1 rout of the Rays, the organization posted a statement on social media saying they were “devastated” to learn of Rachel's loss.

“To those close to her, she was a loving and compassionate mother and wife, and a great support to her family and loved ones,” the statement on X read.

RACHEL MINAYA, WIFE OF YANKEES EXECUTIVE, FOUND DEAD IN HER HOME: REPORT

“In a very short time, Omar has become a beloved member of the Yankees organization, where he regularly displays his unique ability to connect with people of diverse backgrounds. Throughout his distinguished playing career, he has given to others with generosity and friendship, and at this unthinkable time, we offer Omar, his sons Justin and Teddy, and his family and friends our deepest condolences. His family is an extension of the baseball family, and this is a loss deeply felt by all of us.”

According to the New York Post, which cited a person briefed by the Minaya family, suicide was ruled out as the cause of death. Omar Minaya was not at home at the time of his death.

As the Yankees mentioned, the Minayas shared two sons: Justin and Teddy.

Omar Minaya has been in baseball for decades, starting out as a scout for the Texas Rangers. He later joined the New York Mets as an assistant general manager under then-GM Steve Phillips in the 1990s. He helped build a World Series-worthy team, which included players like Mike Piazza, Edgardo Alfonzo, Al Leiter and more.

Minaya eventually became general manager of the Montreal Expos just before the organization folded. However, he helped them contend for the playoffs. After the Expos failed to make the playoffs under his direction, the Mets hired him to be their general manager in 2005, a position he held until the end of the 2010 season.

The Mets only made the playoffs once during his tenure, but they did reach the National League Championship Series against the St. Louis Cardinals, where they would ultimately lose.

Minaya moved on to the San Diego Padres, where he served as senior vice president of baseball operations until 2015, before returning for another stint with the Mets from 2017-2022. The Yankees ultimately signed him ahead of the 2023 season.
