Wrexham will operate a “not superstar or egos” policy when they go to new signings for their impulse from the Premier League next season after being linked to Jamie Vardy and Kevin de Bruyne, said manager Phil Parkinson after closing a third record promotion.
Saturday's 3-0 victory against Charlton Athletic in Stok falls Ras Selled Promotion to the EFL Championship of League one and assured Wrexham's place in history books as the first team in the history of English football to achieve promotion in three consecutive seasons.
The owners of Hollywood, Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mcelhenney, attended when Wrexham confirmed the promotion with Reynolds saying “our goal is to reach the Premier League” after the game.
But Parkinson, who has registered six professional promotions as a manager, said Wrexham must be careful with his recruitment strategy as they embark on what the former Colchester Chief, Bradford and Bolton states is “one of the most competitive leagues in world football” in the championship.
“I think everyone knows the jump [to the Championship] It's huge, “Parkinson told journalists.” I remember that when I took Bolton, it was [exhales] 'This is huge! “In terms of physicality and power in division.
“But I am sure we will be well prepared for that. I think many difficult decisions will be made this summer, in terms of who we bring and how we add to this fantastic squad of boys we have, but let's see if we can build a team to compete at that level.
“I think it's interesting because the jump in salaries is incredible, amazing. Even reaching this level [League One]The jump to obtain quality players from the championship is expensive, but obviously with the next level, I don't think people out of football realize. They think that players in the League one must be billionaires, but the fall of what people read about the Premier League players when they go down, it is huge.
“That is a challenge, but what we have always tried to do is make sure that culture in the club is correct and I think that is key: without superstars, without egos in the costumes and we have to try to do that balance well again.
“You always need additional quality when you raise a level to make sure that right people enter the building.”
Wrexham's ability to attract players due to their owners and a great global profile in the back of the documentary “Welcome to Wrexham” has seen the club linked to the free agents of the Premier League, Vardy and Bruyne, in recent days.
But Parkinson said they have not had internal discussions about Leicester striker, Vardy and Manchester City midfielder from Bruyne.
“We really haven't talked about anything,” Parkinson said. “We always have our eye in players who are free transfers and will be available and we will continue to do so, but I think that in football, recruitment is about having many narrow decisions correctly and I felt that we did it in January when we were under a little pressure because we were not scoring enough goals.
“To maintain our nerve and get the right players to make a difference. I am very satisfied with that.” We need to evaluate in terms of the budget, the level of salaries that players will demand and improve that quality with culture and what we have built here.
“So, the good thing about getting up today is that we have time to sit, reflect on this and sit with the owners.”
