American midfielder Weston McKennie is in talks over a new deal with Juventus, a source told ESPN.
McKennie's contract expires in June 2025 and he has been linked with a possible exit from the Serie A giants this summer. There has been interest in the player from the Bundesliga, Premier League and Fiorentina, but after a turbulent summer he is in favour of extending his stay at Juventus.
McKennie, 25, was left out of Juventus' squad for the final two pre-season games. McKennie, goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny and Federico Chiesa were all exiled, with coach Thiago Motta saying: “[those players] We need to find a new solution and a new club as soon as possible.”
Szczesny is no longer at the club after reaching an agreement with Juventus to terminate his contract while Chiesa remains out of the squad. However, McKennie returned to training with the first team at the end of last week.
“First of all, McKennie is a useful and functional player for our needs,” Motta said at a press conference on August 18. McKennie was a substitute and unused in Juventus' 3-0 win against Como on Monday, the opening game of their Serie A campaign.
But McKennie is hopeful of extending his contract with Juventus for another year, which would take him to the 2026 men's World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
McKennie started all three of the USMNT's Copa America group stage matches and had appeared in 34 Serie A matches for Juventus last season.
