Washington State Removes Interim Label, Appoints Anne McCoy AD

PULLMAN, Wash. — Anne McCoy has been named Washington State's athletic director after serving in the interim position for the past three months, the school announced Tuesday.

McCoy was promoted to interim athletic director in March after Pat Chun left to take the same position in Washington. He has worked in Washington state since 2001.

“Anne's experience in collegiate athletics, her reputation among her peers and, most importantly, her passion and commitment to WSU, make her the perfect candidate to advance Cougar Athletics as our next director of athletics,” the president said. of Washington State, Kirk Schulz, in a statement.

McCoy will be tasked with leading Washington State through an uncertain and likely turbulent couple of years as the Cougars, along with Oregon State, attempt to forge a path forward as the only two remaining members of what was the Conference Pac-12. The Cougars and Beavers will play a football schedule against mostly Mountain West Conference opponents next season. They will also compete as affiliate members of the West Coast Conference in most other sports.

Washington State will compete as an affiliate member of the Mountain West also in baseball and women's swimming.

During McCoy's time as interim athletic director, she led the search that ended with the hiring of David Riley as men's basketball coach and hired women's basketball coach Kamie Ethridge to a contract extension.

“Washington State University is an incredible, special place that has been a big part of our family for more than 23 years. It is our home,” McCoy said. “Serving this institution with its tremendous history is an honor and one I do not take lightly.”
