Vivianne Miedema's Man City take on Arsenal on the opening weekend of the WSL

Vivianne Miedema will return to the Emirates for the opening weekend of the Women's Super League (WSL) season when Arsenal host Manchester City to kick off the 2024-25 campaign.

Miedema moved to league rivals Arsenal after seven years at the club upon the expiry of her contract, signing a three-year deal with City.

Her first league game in a City shirt will be at her former home, the Emirates Stadium, on 22 September. She will play against Arsenal for the first time since 2017, when Miedema was part of the Bayern Munich side that lost 3-1 to Arsenal in a pre-season friendly.

Chelsea won their fifth consecutive WSL title last season and said goodbye to former manager Emma Hayes, who became the new head coach of the US women's national team. Facing Aston Villa at home will be Sonia Bompastor, the first game for the new Blues manager in charge.

Manchester City equalled Chelsea's points tally at the end of last season but narrowly missed out on their first title since 2016 on goal difference after Chelsea scored six goals against Manchester United to close out the season.

United manager Marc Skinner has signed a new one-year contract to remain in his job despite the club finishing fifth last season, their worst result since winning promotion in 2019. They host West Ham United to open the season but face a tricky end to the season. They face Chelsea (home), City (home) and Arsenal (away) in their final three games of the season.

Newly promoted Crystal Palace will play their first ever WSL London derby on their top-flight debut when they visit Tottenham Hotspur. Everton begin their campaign against Brighton, while Liverpool host Leicester City in their first game at their new home, St Helen's Stadium.

Arsenal will host 11 matches at the Emirates Stadium this season. Eight of those will be WSL matches and, if Arsenal qualify for the Champions League, the remaining three will be Champions League group stage matches.

They face Rangers in their first game of the first qualifying round next month and, if they win, they will play Atletico Madrid or Rosenborg for a place in the second qualifying round, where Manchester City are in the competition. Arsenal were knocked out of the competition during last season's first qualifying round.

Chelsea, who automatically qualified for the Champions League after winning the WSL last season, will play three home games at Stamford Bridge. Aston Villa have also announced they will move to Villa Park permanently for the 2024-25 season, playing all their home games at the main stadium rather than the non-league Bescot Stadium.

Arsenal beat Chelsea 4-1 in December last season, handing the west London side their heaviest league defeat in five seasons. This season, the game is due to be played on 13 October, with the return leg scheduled for 26 January, the second game after the winter break.

Tottenham host the first North London derby on November 17, with the return leg at the Emirates Stadium on March 30. City host the first Manchester derby on January 15, with the second leg on the penultimate weekend of the WSL on May 4.
