Louisiana-Monroe football coach Bryant Vincent will serve as an interim atlético director of the school, the school announced Tuesday, a day after John Hartwell resigned as AD.
Vincent, ready to enter his second season as an ULM coach, will also supervise the Athletics Department while the school seeks the permanent replacement of Hartwell. Hartwell, who served as athletic director since February 2023, resigned to pursue “other professional opportunities.”
The additional title does not change the Vincent contract, which extends during the 2029 season.
The president of the University, Carrie Castille, thanked Vincent for assuming additional responsibilities. Several prominent university soccer coaches also had the title of Atlético Director simultaneously, including Bear Bryant (Texas A&M and Alabama), Darrell Royal (Texas), Frank Broyles (Arkansas) and more recently Barry Alvarez (Wisconsin), but the practice has become much less common.
“Bryant has the support of the associated ads and will work closely with them to make sure he can meet the roles and win games,” Castille said in a statement. “He has already won the support of this community as a chief coach, and I hope everyone joins me to meet around to support Ulm Athletics. I have no doubt about Bryant's ability to serve in both roles with excellence and a winning spirit.”
Vincent, 49, took Louisiana-Monroe to a start of 5-1 last year, the best of school since 1987, before the team fell its last six games.
