The eaves Sporting CP Viktor Gyökeres has said that the style of play under his former coach Ruben Amorim “adapted me perfectly.”
Gyökeres, who is one of Arsenal's main objectives in this transfer window, prospered under the love system in Sporting. The Portuguese coach left sports in November to join Manchester United.
“The style of play we had under it adapted me perfectly,” Gyökeres told France Football. Amorim led Sporting to his first title in the League in 19 years in the 2023-24 campaign, with Gyökeres scoring 29 goals in his single season with the Portuguese attire.
The former Coventry City striker also ended up as the top scorer of Portugal League with 39 goals, since Sporting defended the league title last season.
“We won two championships for the first time in 71 years,” he said.
“It's an incredible achievement and, of course, Ruben Amorim played an important role in that. I can't thank him enough.”
Gyökeres admitted that he was surprised that Amorim has gone to Sporting in the middle of last season with the upper part of the classification of the League and live in the Champions League.
“It was a shock, I had never seen a coach go in the middle of the season when everything was going so well. Without feelings.
“Yes, it was surprising, but I totally understand his decision,” Gyökeres said.
Gyökeres, 27, is expected to leave Sporting CP this summer with the Premier League his probable destination.
