USMNT's Matt Turner joins Crystal Palace on loan from Forest

Crystal Palace have signed United States international goalkeeper Matt Turner on a season-long loan from Nottingham Forest, the clubs announced on Friday.

The deal does not include an option or obligation to make the move permanent, sources told ESPN.

Turner, 30, joins Palace to compete with Dean Henderson for the first-choice goalkeeping spot. He arrives on the same day that Sam Johnstone joined Wolves for a fee that could rise to £10m.

“I'm really excited to be here and I'm ready to get to work,” Turner said in Palace's announcement.

“I've heard a lot about [goalkeeping coach] Dean Kiely by Wayne Hennessey and obviously Dean [Henderson] and remi [Matthews] “I have a lot of experience, so it will be great to get to know them, learn how they work, support them in any way I can, but also push them to be the best versions of themselves.”

He had been linked with a possible exit earlier in the transfer window but Nottingham Forest were reluctant to let him go. However, as the transfer deadline approached, Crystal Palace have made a last-minute move.

Turner has had to compete with Carlos Miguel and Matz Sels this season and has found himself third in the pecking order. Sels has started in the Premier League, while Miguel took his place in the midweek League Cup game.

Turner made 17 Premier League appearances for Forest last season but will be looking to relaunch his career at Selhurst Park. He has 44 caps for the United States and was the team's first choice at the World Cup in Qatar and the Copa America in the summer.
