UC San Diego officially admitted at the West Coast Conference

UC San Diego was formally admitted to the West Coast Conference on Wednesday, expanding the conference to 10 teams from the 2027 season.

“We continually identify valuable opportunities to expand our membership, and the addition of UC San Diego aligns greatly with the objectives of the West Coast Conference,” said Commissioner Stu Jackson in a statement. “The meteoric increase of UC San Diego during its recent transition from Division I of the NCAA is the result of strong leadership, a strategic investment and deliberate planning for the success of the postseason.”

The Tritons completed their transition to Division I of the NCAA in 2024 and made history by qualifying both their male and female basketball teams for the NCAA tournament in their first year of eligibility.

The Triton will compete in 14 of the 16 sports sponsored by the CMI, including male and female basketball, football, volleyball, baseball and softball.

UC San Diego Sponsorship 24 sports and will seek an affiliation of the conference for the remaining 10.

The addition of UC San Diego occurs following Gonzaga's decision to leave the WCC for the PAC-12, which will begin in 2026. Seattle officially joined the conference this year.
