MAIN STORY: Manchester United swoop on Simons
Manchester United will look to beat Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig to sign Paris Saint-Germain winger Xavi Simonsaccording to Sport.
Simons spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig, where he scored eight goals and provided 13 assists in the Bundesliga, attracting attention across Europe in the process.
The report reveals that the situation bears similarities to the deal United struck for Leny Yoro last week. In both situations, United have been the underdogs to sign the player, in this case with the strong connection between PSG and Leipzig making the deal look straightforward. However, it could open up an opportunity for the Red Devils to land Simons. United manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly a big fan of Simons, and his new assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is reportedly trying to convince the 21-year-old to join the club.
PSG are reported to be in a position to demand €100m for the Dutch international, a figure that would make a deal difficult for Bayern Munich and Leipzig. Bayern have already made offers of around €70m, but United's financial strength could see the Bavarian club lose ground to the Premier League giants.
Barcelona are also reported to be interested in Simons. The winger spent time in Barcelona's youth academy and the report states that the Spanish club are interested in a reunification. However, the Catalan giants are unable to compete with the financial demands that any potential deal would bring, effectively putting the club out of the running.
