Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United scouted the Ghanaian winger during the last transfer window, but it is the Reds who have established themselves as favorites to sign the in-form 25-year-old. The upcoming African Cup of Nations may play a major role in whether or not to finalize the much-discussed £75 million move; Salah will lead Egypt in the continental tournament but with Ghana not qualifying, Semenyo will be available to play in club football during the match-heavy January period.
– Chelsea are willing to make an £87m offer to FC Porto for the striker Samu Agehowa next summer, according to Record. Virgili marked his return from the Under-20 World Cup by providing the assist for Vedat Muriqi's equalizer in Mallorca's victory against Sevilla.
EXPERT SHOT
ESPN's Sam Tighe looks at how well Samu Agehowa would fit in at Chelsea:
In the summer of 2024, Samu looked set to move to Chelsea, having concluded his gold medal-winning campaign with Spain at the Olympics, but the move fell through and João Félix joined in his place.
It is a series of events that the Blues have probably regretted since, as Samu has continued to blossom into one of Europe's best young forwards at FC Porto, while Felix made minimal impact before being sent off to Saudi Arabia.
The Spanish international is a powerhouse number 9, capable of intimidating defenders using his massive frame. Look at his catalog of goals while on loan at Deportivo Alavés and you will see his opponents literally bouncing off him and falling to the ground. He can drop back towards the centre-backs a la Romelu Lukaku, or hit the channels and stretch the field.
His time at Porto has given him useful experience playing in a dominant team, as before all his football was focused on lesser teams that played more reactive football. This would help in a transition to a club like Chelsea, who are rapidly developing a 'type' they like up front: Samu, Liam Delap and Marc Guiu are all attacking centre-forwards.
