Timothy Weah of the USMNT received a red card after hitting a Panama player in the head

The United States will play the remainder of its second Copa America group match against Panama with just 10 men after Timothy Weah was sent off with a red card early in the first half.

Weah received a straight red card after he appeared to hit a Panamanian player in the back of the head away from the ball.

Weah was initially given a yellow card for the incident, but after a VAR review, it was overturned and the red card came out of the referee's pocket.

Weah did not look at the referee at the time of his red card, simply walking off the field and removing his shirt in frustration.

Weah's red card is the third so far in this Copa América.

The United States will be one man down for the rest of the game, although it didn't initially seem to bother them.

Falorin Balogun scored despite Panama having a numerical advantage. Antonee Robinson stole a pass in the opponent's defensive area and, after a pass and pass situation, Balogun finished with his left boot to the right post, where the ball bounced off the metal and found the back of the net for 1-0 .

However, Panama would fight back when César Blackman scored his first international goal of his career.

Blackman appeared to be frustrated by a shooting opportunity by American goalkeeper Matt Turner, but saw the ball come back to his feet. He spun past the American defenders and the ball proved perfect as Turner couldn't get to it.

The first half ended 1-1, although the United States team had a goal disallowed because VAR showed American defender Tim Ream was offside following a Christian Pulisic free kick. Weston McKennie scored, but Ream affected the play, so the goal was disallowed.

As things stand, a draw would see the United States leave Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta with one point following their three-point victory over Bolivia in their opener.
