Las Cruces, NM – The State of New Mexico has hired the Deputy Director of Tulsa, Joe Fields as his next Atlético director.
The school announced on Monday that Fields will replace Mario Moccia, who was fired in January following an investigation into the management of the department of a case of sexual abuse. Fields begins his new role on October 8.
“Aggie fans will love what Joe brings to the table,” said Justin Bannister, Chief of NMSU Cabinet and president of the Advertisement Search Committee, in a statement. “He has been a student -atleta and administrator, so he has a unique vision of the complete experience of university athletics.”
Fields had served as Deputy Director and Director of Operations of Tulsa since 2024 after making its way through the Texas A&M Athletics Department. He was hired in 2017 as an associate director of Athletics of Academic Services and was deputy Atlético Director when he went to Tulsa.
Fields played football in Syracuse and joined his Alma Mater as administrator after playing a season for the NFL Carolina Panthers.
