The saints stay with Derek Car as QB1, says GM Mickey Loomis

Indianapolis – The general manager of the New Orleans Saints, Mickey Loomis, indicated that the team will stay with Derek Carr as the team's holding field in 2025.

Loomis, who sat with journalists at NFL Scouting combines Wednesday, said the Saints were “excited.”

“I think we feel we have a boy we can win with,” Loomis said

The Saints, who have been in the process of evaluating their list before free agency, gave a firmer response about Carr than at the Kellen Moore introductory press conference two weeks ago. Moore said at that time that he had a lot of respect for Carr and that Carr was a “tremendous seafood of the starting field in this league”, but did not say if he would start the Saints in 2025.

Moore, who also met with the media on Wednesday in Indianapolis, praised Carr's processing capacity and said that Carr's clips were often used in equipment concept teaching tapes throughout the league.

“We feel lucky to have Derek here, the experience he has. He is a great field marshal in this league,” Moore said Wednesday.

Loomis admitted that Saints are expected to be pressed against the limit with free agency just two weeks away, but still believes that the team will be active in free agency. Saints are expected to be significantly higher than the limit, with the limit number of $ 51.4 million car as a significant obstacle to overcome.

The Saints could release almost $ 31 million in capitalization space this year by restructuring the Carr contract. A complete restructuring would cause the 2026 Capitalization number 2026 of Carr to be approximately $ 69 million in the last year of its agreement.

“Yes, it is tight,” Loomis said about the flexibility of the lid. “There is no secret in that, and yours is a large number, so we hope to be able to maneuver.”
