Pittsburgh – The Pittsburgh Penguins honored the announcer of the Mike Lange Hall during an emotional ceremony before Saturday's game against Washington.
Lange, who died Wednesday at age 76, called Penguin Games for 46 years and spent five decades in transmission before retiring in 2021.
The penguins invited the two children of Lange, their families and some of the old lange -to -ice partners before the initial confrontation. Pittsburgh's captain for a long time, Sidney Crosby, along with Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang greeted them and then stopped with them during a long video package that presented some of the iconic lady, since “it is a night of Hockey in Pittsburgh “for” that hit him like a rented mule “
Fans ended the ceremony giving Lange a long and strong ovation while one of their children showed a sign that said “thanks Pittsburgh”.
The team placed a large image of Lange next to a table full of a vase of yellow roses and a set of headphones along the lower lobby in PPG Paints Arena. There was another meeting of flowers and another set of headphones within one of the radio stall at the media level, which bears the name of Lange in 2019.
The penguins wore stickers on the back of their black helmets with a microphone and headphones established against a golden background.
Lange spent almost five decades recounting the rise of the franchise of also Ran to the Stanley Cup champion five times, its unique delivery and its extravagant sayings that serve as the soundtrack of the iconic moments of the member of the Hall of Fame Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jag, as well as current Crosby and Malkin stars.
The Hockey Hall of Fame included Lange in 2001 when he received the Foster Hewitt Award for Transmission Excellence.
