Pep Guardiola has said that the classification for the Champions League would make Manchester City season “a great success.”
City, champions in the last four years, are fifth at the Premier League table with 10 games for the end. Guardiola has had to deal with a series of injuries to the key players, including the winner of Ballon d'Or, Rodri, since September.
The city head believes that, due to the problems he has faced, ensuring the qualification of the Champions League would be a significant achievement.
“The qualification for the Champions League would be a great success, but you have to win it,” said Guardiola.
“I want to qualify for the Champions League. It won't be good [if City miss out] But I saw what happened with other teams in the past in the Premier League.
“Not being in the Champions League would be a problem, but there are teams that do not describe that they have returned and are there.”
City could end fifth and still qualify for the Champions League. The strong performances of English teams in UEFA competitions means that the Premier League is ongoing to receive an additional place from the Champions League.
He could offer a security network to the city, but Guardiola has said that he will not matter if his team cannot build a winning race between now and the end of the season.
