Denver Nuggets star guard Jamal Murray received a large fine, but not a suspension, from the NBA after throwing a towel and heating pad in the direction of a referee during the team's Game 2 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night.

Murray was fined $100,000 for his actions, which the league announced in a statement from Joe Dumars, executive vice president and head of basketball operations.

Murray was seen throwing a towel at a referee before a Nuggets staff member quickly took it away from him and before the referee had a chance to step on it and potentially cause an injury. Murray then threw a heating pad in the referee's direction and his teammate Kentavious Caldwell-Pope picked it up and threw it on the bench.

During both incidents the game continued and there were no whistles from the referee.

After the game, T-Wolves head coach Chris Finch called Murray's actions “inexcusable” and “dangerous.”

The night's official crew chief, Marc Davis, also said he never saw Murray throw the objects in real time, but that it would have been a reviewable situation if he or one of his crew members had seen what happened.

However, Murray would not have been ejected, but rather a technical foul.

“For an ejection, it would have to be determined that it was thrown directly at someone and not out of frustration,” Davis told a group reporter.

Murray had an atrocious shot in the 106-80 home rout against Minnesota. He made just 3 of 18 shots and scored eight points, although he finished with 13 rebounds. Murray did not speak to reporters after the match and quickly left the arena.

Murray is typically a sniper who can take on the scoring load if needed for the Nuggets, especially in last year's postseason. However, he has struggled with his shot and a calf strain, which he continues to play with, may have something to do with it.

The Nuggets hope Murray can stay calm and warm up from the field as the series moves to Minnesota, where Denver trails two games to none in the best-of-seven series.
