Chief coach Greg Vanney has received an extension of the contract for several years by the MLS La Galaxy Cup champion despite his historic historical skate without victories to begin the new season.
The Galaxy announced the agreement on Friday for Vanney despite the fact that the club has 10 losses and three draws at the worst start of a season of any team in the history of the MLS.
The general manager of Galaxy, Will Kuntz, said the decision to keep Vanney in the long term was taken last year. Vanney, a two -time MLS Cup champion, was previously under contract only during the current season.
“Greg is one of the most respected and successful coaches in the history of the MLS, and we are excited to continue under their leadership,” Kuntz said in a statement.
“While this season's results have not reflected our standards, this was a decision taken after our 2024 mls cup victory, and we continue insurance of the project that we are building with Greg and we have a clear path to return to a level of MLS champion. Greg's commitment to development, culture and high standards are not useless.”
Vanney took the galaxy to its title of the sixth registration of the MLS last season in an impressive change for a team that almost did not succeed in the previous decade since it won the 2014 title. It finished second at the West Conference before crossing the playoffs and beat the New York Red Bulls 2-1 at home in the final of the MLS Cup.
Vanney also won the MLS Cup and reached the three MLS Cup finals during his long term with Toronto before the former Galaxy defender returned to his south native of California in 2021. The Galaxy arrived at the playoffs in two of the first four seasons in charge of Vanney.
But the new season has been horrible for the galaxy without the star midfielder Riqui Puig, who led the MLS in touches last season by a wide margin before a knee ligament was broken in the final of the conference.
The striker left Joveljic, midfielder Mark Delgado and the MVP of the MLS Gastón Brugman Cup were among the taxpayers who had to be transferred in the low season due to the wage limit limitations.
The designated players Joseph Paintsil, Gabriel Pec and Marco Reus returned for the new season, but all have had problems with injuries, and the Galaxy is found with only three points of 13 games. The Galaxy has won a victory this season, beating Herediano 4-1 in a match of the Ccancacaf Champions Cup in March.
The Galaxy lost 1-0 against Sporting Kansas City earlier this month despite not giving up a shot, falling into a goal by Maya Yoshida. The then coincided with the worst margin of defeat in the history of the MLS during a 7-0 output of the Red Bulls.
The Galaxy lost 3-2 against Philadelphia on Wednesday. They organize Los Angeles FC on Sunday night in the Rivalry game of El Traffic.
