The Administrative Sports Court (TAD) has opened a case against LaLiga president Javier Tebas, following a complaint filed by Real Madrid in relation to the CVC agreement signed by La Liga.
LaLiga clubs voted in December 2021 in favour of a €2 billion ($2.2 billion) investment deal with private equity firm CVC Capital Partners, despite opposition from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Athletic Club.
Madrid filed a complaint against Tebas before the TAD, considering that it was discriminated against by LaLiga during negotiations with the CVC investment fund for television rights.
Madrid have accused Tebas of abuse of power and lack of transparency in the convening and management of the meeting of August 12, 2021, when the agreement with CVC was discussed. Tebas would have had to notify the clubs ten days in advance before the meeting and, according to the complaint, he only gave eight.
The TAD considers that there are indications that Tebas committed very serious infringements without giving the clubs 10 days' notice.
Real Madrid, Barca and Athletic Club sued La Liga, calling the league's deal with investment fund CVC “illegal,” while La Liga said the deal would strengthen its clubs. A court dismissed that suit in February.
Last week, the TAD suspended Pedro Rocha as president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for two years due to a serious infraction related to abuse of power while he was interim president.
