Stefanos Tsitsipas complains to French Open referee about Carlos Alcaraz's 'prolonged grunt'


Stefanos Tsitsipas took issue with the playing style of two-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz during their quarterfinal match at the open French Tuesday, prompting him to present his case to the chair umpire.

Tsitsipas, finalist of the French Open 2021, He approached the referee after losing a tie-break in the second set to complain about Alcaraz's “prolonged grunting.”

After hitting the ball into the net, Tsitsipas suggested to the referee that the noise was distracting.

“When I'm about to shoot, you hear a long growl,” he said, according to a video. via Eurosport.

“The growl spreads. It's like a millisecond before it hits him.”

Tsitsipas' complaints were met with boos from the crowd, but it would not be the last time he would raise the issue.

Tsitsipas approached the chair umpire again after Alcaraz took a two-set lead.

“It was manageable before, but that last forehand was a little over the edge.”

Alcaraz would win the quarterfinal match in three sets. He will next face Jannik Sinner in the semi-final match.

Casper Ruud advanced to the semifinals on Tuesday after Novak Djokovic announced his withdrawal from the French Open due to a knee injury.

“I am very sad to announce that I have to withdraw from #rolandgarros,” Djokovic posted on social media. “I played my heart out and gave my all in yesterday's game and unfortunately, due to a medial meniscus tear in my right knee, my team and I had to make a difficult decision after careful consideration and consultation.”
