Southern Utah, Utah Tech will join Big Sky completely in 2026-27

Farmington, Utah-Southern Utah and Utah Tech will join the Big Sky conference as complete members who begin with the 2026-27 academic year.

The additions announced on Wednesday will give the conference 11 full members after the game of the state of Sacramento for the Big West in all sports, except football.

“It's the right time for the big sky to bring Utah Tech and bring southern Utah back,” said Big Sky Commissioner Tom Wistrcill, in a statement. “The addition of the growing rival athletics departments of these two universities, located directly within our geographical footprint in the west of the United States, reinforce the stability and long -term success of our league.”

The losses of the south of Utah and Utah Tech leave the Western Athletic Conference with five members after the departures of Seattle, Grand Canyon and Utah Valley. Both schools will remain in the WAC until they move to Big Sky.

The Big Sky also has two affiliated soccer members, Cal Poly and UC Davis, along with the male golf affiliate Francis Marion, which joins the League on July 1.
