MADRID – The match between Ceuta and Almería in the second division of the Spanish league was suspended on Sunday after the death of a fan.
Spanish media said a 73-year-old Ceuta fan died after falling ill in the stands. The Spanish league confirmed the death.
The referee stopped the match around the 20th minute when doctors were called to the stands to help the fan. The match resumed more than 10 minutes later after the fan was taken off on a stretcher.
The death was announced at half-time and the referee suspended the match.
The Spanish league did not immediately announce a new date for the match.
