The youngest starter in an MLB All-Star Game since Doc Gooden in 1986 let everyone know why he got the nod.

Pittsburgh Pirates rookie phenom Paul Skenes was selected as the National League's starting pitcher on Friday, which is understandable.

Just a year after being drafted first overall, Skenes took the ball in Arlington and faced the best the American League has to offer.

His first pitch to pitcher Steven Kwan was 98 mph. He then threw a devastating 94 mph sinker and drew a fly ball to shortstop on a 100 mph fastball.

After Gunnar Henderson hit a weak grounder to him, he walked Juan Soto to get Aaron Judge ahead, but Judge grounded out on the first pitch. He had four missed swings on his 16 pitches.

His night ended after just one inning, but in facing those four stars, he proved he deserves his place.

Skenes isn't eligible for the ERA title, and probably won't be for the entire season, considering he was promoted in May. But 1.90 is still an insane number.

He has struck out 11.8 batters per nine innings, the second-best mark in baseball among those who have pitched at least 50 innings. His ERA is also the second-best mark given the demand, behind only Reynaldo Lopez's 1.88.

Skenes has thrown two no-hitters well into the season (one in six innings and one in seven), but pitch counts prevented him from potentially putting his name in the history books.
