Riley Gaines has a huge following since she became the face of the fight against biological men in women's and girls' sports. Of course, that has also generated a lot of criticism.
One of the most important is Keith Olbermann, with whom Gaines was in a war of words on X, formerly Twitter, several months ago.
Olbermann said the “stupid” and “failed” Gaines, a 12-time All-American and SEC record holder, “stinked at swimming.”

However, it didn't stop there, as Olbermann called it a “transphone” that “has no reputation to ruin.”
In a video responding to Olbermann's post, she recorded herself. showing off their trophies for several of her accolades, including first team All-SEC, three SEC titles, a second place finish nationally, an SEC Community Service Award, an SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and others. She also qualified for the US trials for the Tokyo Olympics.
Gaines hopped on Joe Rogan's podcast this week and the two went over the barbs she and the former ESPN and MSNBC host exchanged.

“I am very proud to finish my career as a 12-time All-American, five-time SEC Champion, SEC Record Holder, SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year, SEC Community Service Leader of the Year, I can move on.” and Is it like this senile old man wants to attack me? He still lives with his mom in his basement. I had to ask my dad, 'Who is this guy?' “I don't even know who he is,” Gaines said.
In the video, Gaines broke a glass trophy, but said the SEC sent him a new one.
“They say, 'We're so sorry you had to waste your time and break a trophy against Keith Olbermann, we wanted to send you a new one,'” he said. “Anyway, I have more. Thanks, Keith Olbermann.”
“My motto is – I feel like I live by this for the most part – 'Don't hit. Don't pay attention to someone when that's clearly what they're competing for,'” Gaines said. “But I literally couldn't resist when it came to him.”

Gaines decided to become an advocate for justice in women's sports shortly after competing against Thomas at the 2022 national championships.
