Alexia Putellas of Barcelona rejected a great money to join Paris Saint-Germain before the closing of the transfer window this week, sources told ESPN.
The French club approached the midfielder of Spain and was prepared to deliver a several years contract, in addition to a significant salary increase, since they try to end the domain of Ol Lyonnes in the main league.
A source told ESPN that Barça made it clear that they were not open to Putellas offers, but the PSG was willing to execute its € 1 million release clause ($ 1.2 million), which would have left the Catalan side without impotent.
However, Putellas, twice winner of Ballon D'Or, has promised his commitment to Barça, where he has made more than 450 appearances since he joined Levante in 2012.
The 31 -year contract with Barça expires next summer, although there is an option to extend until 2027.
With the season already underway, the departure of Putellas would have been a hammer blow for a Barça team that has already been greatly reduced this summer, with only 18 players registered with the first team.
Fridolina Rolfö, Ingrid Engen, Jana Fernández, Ellie Roebuck, Bruna Vilamala, Martina Fernández and Lucía Corrales are among those who have gone, while only Laia Aleixandri has arrived.
The decision to let so many players leave is part of broader cost reduction measures in the various sports teams of the club, as well as the desire to use the budget available to renew the contracts of players whose contracts are expiring.
In addition to Putellas, Marta Torrejón, Mapi León, Salma Paralluelo, Clàudia Pina, Caroline Graham Hansen, Cata Coll and the terms of Ona Batlle are in 2026.
