PSG complete the transfer of midfielder João Neves from Benfica

Paris Saint-Germain have completed the transfer of young midfielder João Neves from Benfica.

Neves, 19, has signed a five-year contract with the Ligue 1 champions after passing a medical.

The Portuguese international becomes PSG's second summer signing following the arrival of Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov from Krasnodar.

The highly coveted Neves recently competed for his country at Euro 2024. He joins PSG for a reported fee of €60 million ($64.9 million) plus €10 million in add-ons.

“It's a fantastic project from a huge club. It's a young club with big goals and I think that way of thinking and trying to make the club stronger with young players is a great project. This club has big goals and already has several records,” he said in a statement.

Neves progressed through the youth ranks at Benfica before making his senior debut for the team in January 2023.

Last season he played 55 games for Benfica in all competitions.

At PSG, Neves will join his Portuguese teammates Gonçalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes and Danilo Pereira.

“I spoke to all the Portuguese players, but also to Angel Di Maria, who told me a lot about the club. He only told me good things and that I would be happy here,” said Neves.
