Manchester City head, Pep Guardiola, said he plans to include Phil Foden in his team for the FIFA Club World Cup despite accepting that the midfielder needs a period of “rest.”
Foden, appointed the best Premier League player a year ago, has fought for his form this season. England's matches against Andorra and Senegal will be lost in June after asking that the Thomas Tuchel team remains outside.
Guardiola has said that the 24 -year -old, who is dealing with an ankle injury, needs to rest. But the city head said Foden is online to be part of the group that travels to the Unite states for the Club World Cup.
“In principle, it will come to America,” Guardiola said.
“We want to help you, that's the most important thing. You need to rest and it will happen now after Sunday. Step by step it will come back, that's what we want.
“I just want, I want, I want to help you. I don't care about your performance in the field, I want you to feel good and after the rest it will come in an easy way.”
Guardiola has revealed that the club will have conversations with the English Soccer Association (FA) before deciding on the availability of James Mcatee and Rico Lewis for the Club World Cup.
The children under 21 years in England begin their euros campaign against the Czech Republic on June 12. The city will fly to Florida for its base camp of the Club World Cup the same day before starting the tournament with a game against Wydad AC in Philadelphia on June 18.
“They have to talk,” Guardiola said.
“Brome and I am such a fun guy, so I don't know who is going to pay the salary in these months: national teams or the club, so if they decide that they are going to those under 21, I don't know who will pay it. They will decide, they would say, the players with the club.
“They will talk to the sports director and have to decide what they want to do.
“I know that the Sub-21S manager asked the club so that both players go to those under 21, but I don't know the resolution at this time.”
Meanwhile, Guardiola has confirmed that Kyle Walker will not join the Club World Cup team. The defender of England joined the AC Milan on loan in January, but he still has a year left in his contract at the Etihad stadium.
