The golf community continued to mourn the sudden loss of the two-time PGA Tour winner Grayson Murray who passed away unexpectedly on Saturday morning at age 30.

Fellow PGA Tour golfer, Peter Malnati, gave an emotional interview after the third round of the Charles Schwab Challenge on Saturday. He was paired with Murray in the first and second rounds of the tournament.

“This is going to be really difficult,” Malnati began, already trying to contain his emotions. “I didn't know Grayson very well, but I spent the last two days with him.”

“And it's so funny, we worry a lot here about a bad breakup here or a good breakup there,” Malnati paused while holding back tears. “We're very competitive here. We all want to beat each other. And then something like this happens and you realize we're all human.”

Murray withdrew from the tournament on Friday after the 16th hole, citing illness.

“This is really a very, very difficult day because you look at Grayson and you see in him someone who has visibly struggled in the past, and has been open about it. And then you see him being kind to return his life to a place where he feel good about things, it's very sad,” Malnati continued.

He was open about his previous struggles with alcoholism and mental health. In January, Murray revealed that he had been sober for eight months, was engaged to be married, had converted to Christianity and felt that his best golf was ahead of him. He was also named to the 16-member Player Advisory Council.

“He's really explored his faith over the years, and it seems like in the last six or eight months, he had really started to commit his life to Christ and try to honor Christ with his life. It definitely seemed like there was more to it than a Lightness for him in a good way during these last few months when I saw him.”

No cause of death has been revealed.
