Pep Guardiola says he has not ruled out signing another contract extension at Manchester City.
Guardiola suggested towards the end of last season that he could leave the club at the end of his current contract, which expires in 2025.
But speaking during City's pre-season tour of the United States, the 53-year-old insisted he could still decide to stay at the Etihad Stadium.
“I know I may have been wrong to say it at the right time, when we won the Premier League, but I say that I've been at Manchester City for eight years, so I won't be here for another eight years,” Guardiola said.
“That's why I'm closer to leaving than staying. But I haven't said I'm leaving.
“When I leave, I'll say I'm leaving. But I didn't say it.
“I don't completely rule out renewing my contract. I just want to be sure that it's the right decision, not only for me, but also for the club.”
Guardiola is preparing for his ninth season as City manager, his longest tenure as coach after four years at Barcelona and three in charge of Bayern Munich.
He has enjoyed unprecedented success since arriving in 2016, winning six Premier League titles, including the last four in a row, and the Champions League.
The latest contract extension was agreed in November 2022 and he was expected to seek a job with the national team at the end of his contract in 2025.
“I haven't considered it because I haven't decided whether I'm going,” Guardiola added.
“When I decide that it's ready, the first thing I'll do is talk to my sporting director, my president, my CEO. That's the first thing.”
“I will never take a step without my team, my club, knowing about it. I am incredibly grateful. When it happens, we will talk. When? I don't know when the best time will be.
“It doesn't mean that doing it that way is perfect, or doing it another way is perfect. Or maybe in a few months, let's say, extend the contract. So I don't know.”
