The cycling community is mourning the death of Norwegian cyclist Andre Drege, who died on Saturday after suffering an accident during the Giro d'Austria. He was 25 years old.
Team Coop-Repsol confirmed the news in a post on social media.
“We are devastated by the tragic passing of Andre Drege,” the statement posted on X read. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Andre's family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

“Andre's family has requested privacy as they grieve their loss and we kindly ask that their wishes be respected.”

“It is with great sadness and deep regret that we have to announce the passing away of Andre Drege. On Saturday 6th July, after suffering a very serious accident during the descent of the Großglockner on the fourth stage of the Giro d'Austria, André crashed and suffered serious injuries,” reads the statement posted on social media.
“Our entire team is devastated by this tragic accident, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of André and his Coop-Repsol team, during this incredibly difficult time.”

Italian cyclist Filippo Ganna won the stage, but race organizers cancelled the ceremony.
According to the BBC, Drege won seven races this year and was expected to move up to World Tour level next year.
