LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska men's basketball coach Fred Hoiberg has received a two-year contract extension through the 2028-29 season and a raise to $4.25 million annually effective April 1, interim athletic director Dennis Leblanc announced Wednesday. .
Hoiberg led the Cornhuskers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014. They are the eighth seed and will play Texas A&M in Memphis, Tennessee, on Friday.
The Huskers (23-10) have their second-most wins in program history, and their third-place finish in the Big Ten was their best conference finish since tying for second in the Big Eight in 1993 .
Hoiberg was scheduled to make $3.5 million next season under his previous contract.
“I appreciate the confidence our administration has shown in the leadership of our staff in the Husker basketball program,” Hoiberg said. “With our history at the University of Nebraska, this is a special place for our family. We want to continue building a program that our fans can embrace and that represents the values of Nebraskans.
“With the phenomenal facilities and fan support, we are positioned to do things the Husker men's basketball program has never accomplished.”
Hoiberg was born in Lincoln and his grandfather, Jerry Bush, coached the Huskers from 1954 to 1963.
The Huskers went 24-67 in his first three seasons and he took a pay cut ahead of the 2022-23 season. Nebraska went 16-16 last season, finishing with wins in six of nine games. The Huskers' 29-13 record since February 2023 is third-best among the Big Ten.
Nebraska is the only Power Five program to have never won a game in the NCAA tournament.
