The Washington Nationals received some good news Sunday when outfield prospect Daylen Lile was released from the hospital following a scary spill against the Boston Red Sox in a spring training game.

Red Sox prospect Tyler Miller launched his first home run of the spring Saturday in the seventh inning, but there was concern when Lile, trying to pull off a miracle home run steal, flipped over the bullpen wall and landed hard.

It was a reminder of Torii Hunter's infamous swing at Fenway Park on David Ortiz's game-tying grand slam in Game 2 of the 2013 American League Championship Series. JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida, which is the home of the Red Sox in the spring, has the same low wall in right field that mimics Fenway.

While the broadcast did not show how Lile fell into the bullpen, the relievers and staff there immediately signaled for trainers to come check him out. They continued greeting until people appeared to evaluate what happened.

Lile was eventually stretchered out of the stadium and it was feared something serious had happened.

Fortunately, after spending time in the hospital for an evaluation, Lile was diagnosed with a lower back contusion and it appears the Nationals avoided anything worse.

“I mean, he's hurting,” Nationals manager Davey Martinez said Sunday, according to ESPN. “But he'll be fine, which is great news. We were lucky.”

Martinez said after Saturday's game that he would have a CT scan of Lile's back and that he had movement in his arms and legs.

Lile also gave a thumbs up to the crowd, showing that he had some optimism despite his situation.

The 21-year-old was selected in the second round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Nats. He played in 19 games his rookie year before missing the entire 2022 season after needing Tommy John surgery.

Lile split his 2023 season into Low-A and High-A ball, batting .291 with an .891 OPS in 66 Low-A games.
