The MLB Home Run Derby didn't get off to a flying start on Monday night, as singer Ingrid Andress came under fire for her rendition of the national anthem at Globe Life Field on Monday night.
Andress, a 32-year-old singer-songwriter who has charted on the Billboard Hot 100, stood between the pitcher's mound and home plate and began to sing.
Andress seemed to have some trouble controlling her pitch early on, especially on the higher notes of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Philadelphia Phillies Home Run Derby participant Alec Bohm was even seen smiling when the broadcast focused on him during the anthem.
Bohm's moment was reminiscent of a poor rendition of pop star Fergie's anthem before the NBA All-Star Game in 2018, which showed several NBA stars trying not to react to her singing.

Social media was quick to react to Andress and was quite harsh with its criticism.
“My ears are bleeding. One of the worst renditions of the national anthem ever,” posted one X user.
Another said: “Ingrid Andress gives Fergie a run for her money for the worst national anthem ever performed.”
“Uhhh… that anthem was interesting,” another X user posted.
Sports Illustrated writer Alex Carr opined: “I'm so sorry, I'm sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person, but that was one of the worst national anthems I think I've ever heard in my entire life.”
