MyKayla Skinner's husband says he's 'proud' of how his wife handled her feud with Simone Biles: 'The strongest person'

As MyKayla Skinner remains embroiled in a social media feud over her past comments about the USA Gymnastics team, her husband is showing his support.

The retired gymnast, who won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics, has been at the centre of controversy after criticising the current group of US gymnasts. She suggested the US team lacked depth and had a poor work ethic.

“In addition to Simone [Biles]”I feel like the talent and depth isn't what it used to be” and “the girls just don't have the work ethic,” Skinner said in a now-deleted YouTube video.

In a video posted on Instagram, Skinner apologized for her past comments and also asked Biles to “please put an end” to what she described as “cyberbullying.”

“It's disgusting to see people encourage bullying that has resulted in threats of physical harm against myself, my husband, and our daughter. So please, right now, I'm just asking that it stop for the sake of my family, because enough is enough. That's why I'm here. It's because about four weeks ago, I made a comment about work ethic and what seems to be happening with the younger generation. To be perfectly clear, I take 100% responsibility for misarticulated the point I was trying to make, and the last thing I wanted to do was cause harm or offend our U.S. Olympic team,” Skinner said in the video.

SIMONE BILES DEFENDS HER CALL-OUT TO A FORMER TEAMMATE: 'IT WAS RIGHT AT THE TIME'

“My family and friends do not deserve to be caught in the crossfire. They have done nothing. That is why, Simone, I am asking you directly and publicly to put an end to this. Please ask your followers to stop. You have been an incredible advocate for mental health awareness and so many people need your help right now. We have been hurt and attacked in ways I am sure you never intended.”

Skinner's husband, Jonas Harmer, came to his wife's defense via the video's comments section.

“I'm proud of you for apologizing when you did, for staying quiet when you did, and for standing up for yourself now,” Harmer wrote. “You are the strongest person I know!”

On July 30, Biles appeared to respond to Skinner by sharing a post on social media after Team USA won gold in the team all-around competition. “Lack of talent, laziness, Olympic champions,” Biles wrote in an Instagram post.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Biles defended calling out her former teammate, arguing that it was her responsibility to “stand up” for the rest of the team.

“It's important because you have to teach them to use their voice. And if they don't, you're the voice for those who don't have a voice, which is fine,” Biles said. “I felt like it was the right time to stand up for them because they're so young and they haven't fully shown their power yet.”

“For someone to stand up, I know that meant a lot to me. [my teammates]”, Biles added.

Biles continued her historic run at the Paris Olympics, winning three gold medals and one silver.
